Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

The skin around the eyelid is very delicate and easily shows the signs of age and stress. Oftentimes, this skin droops over the natural folds of the eyelid, causing puffiness, wrinkles and impaired vision.

A blepharoplasty can be performed to remove excess skin or fatty deposits on the eyelids and improve dark circles and deep grooves under the eyes. A blepharoplasty will also improve your facial structure by giving your eyes a more alert and youthful appearance.

There are many approaches used for a blepharoplasty depending on your facial muscle structure, bone structure and symmetry of your eyebrows. During your consult, your surgeon will determine the appropriate techniques to realistically achieve your goals.

During the blepharoplasty, your surgeon will remove excess skin and fatty deposits around the eye and tighten the skin to improve wrinkles. Sutures are invisible to the eye and often self-dissolving. Recovery time for a blepharoplasty varies among individuals, but patients are expected to reach a full recovery within 10-14 days of the procedure.

When to consider a blepharoplasty:

• Excess skin covers the natural fold of the eyelid
• Loose  skin on the upper eyelid impairs vision
• Permanent bags, dark circles and/or deep grooves appear under the eyes

Other cosmetic procedures that may be performed with a blepharoplasty include

• Brow Lift
• Rhytidectomy (Face Lift)
• Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
